From 23 to 25 June, the 30th edition of the Palio di Asolo and 12th edition of the Palio dei Cento Orizzonti, the challenge between the municipalities of the Asolo lands, takes place.
This special event sees groups of young people compete against each other among the ups and downs of the village, pulling chariots on which the maids stand: a combination of the city’s Roman tradition and the celebrations for the arrival of Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus, in 1489. Ten municipalities involved, 26 competing teams, more than 250 young people who have been training for months along the climbs of Asolo for a race that lasts a handful of minutes but means a whole year of glory: this is the Palio di Asolo.
The three-day event in Asolo offers a wide-ranging programme with activities for everyone:
Friday 23 the presentation of the teams in Piazza Brugnoli and the drawing of the starting order;
Saturday 24 at 7.30 p.m. First day of competition in which the female teams of both the Palio di Asolo and the Palio dei 100 orizzonti will compete;
On Sunday 25, the challenge between the men’s teams will start at 5.30 p.m. with the 100 Horizons starting first, followed by those of the Palio di Asolo.
At the end of the competitions, the prize-giving ceremonies will be followed by a festive conclusion in Piazza Brugnoli.
