The city of Monselice celebrates the saint of lovers with a rich programme that includes traditional events and cultural initiatives dedicated to all those who love each other. St Valentine’s Day in the city of the fortress has very ancient origins, linked to the presence of the saint’s relics in the Oratory of San Giorgio.
On Saturday 11, Sunday 12 and Tuesday 14, the central Piazza Mazzini comes alive with the ‘Piazza del Cuore’, a market of delicacies and handcrafted gift ideas on the theme of love.
On Sunday 12 and Tuesday 14 February from 2.30 p.m., at the Oratory of St George, there will be the traditional blessing ceremony of the small golden keys, which are donated to protect the health of lovers.
There is no shortage of special initiatives at the monuments: on Saturday and Sunday, admission with a special €1 ticket to the Museo San Paolo, while on Tuesday 14, in the afternoon, there will be free guided tours at the Pieve di Santa Giustina.
At Palazzo della Loggetta it will be possible to admire the exhibition ‘La Calligraphie du Désir’ by the Italian-Belgian painter Laurence Turina.
Throughout the festive period, shops will be open with themed shop windows and special promotions. Prizes will be up for grabs for those taking part in the “La foto del Cuore” (The Heart Photo) competition with a romantic selfie in Monselice. Valentine’s Day menus in participating restaurants.
