The Prosecco Run between Vidor, Farra, Moriago and Valdobbiadene

Appointment on 3 December together with Prosecco Run (21.097 km) and Prosecchina (10 km)

2023 will be the year of the Prosecco Marathon. It will run between Vidor, Farra di Soligo, Moriago della Battaglia and Valdobbiadene, crossing the Prosecco hills, a Unesco heritage site, and the wineries. A unique scenario that goes to ‘double’ the Prosecco Run, a marathon that year after year, even with the Prosecchina, has reached a success of over 3000 participants. On Sunday 3 December in Vidor, therefore, a great spectacle of running and tourist promotion will be staged, offering participants breathtaking views, Prosecco toasts and refreshments inside the cellars that will be crossed by the 42.195 km. In a hilly route, which has always been appreciated more for its scenic beauty than for ‘naked’ agonism, on the first Sunday of December Tri Veneto Run will therefore also organise a marathon that will allow the technical experience to merge with the tourist and food-and-wine experience, thanks to the skilful know-how of the organisers, supported by the municipal administrations of the municipalities crossed. The event will take place under the aegis of the Us Acli and, over the distance of 42.195 km, will be open to all those with a competitive medical certificate. And if in 2022 along the 21.097 km Prosecco Run the number of wineries crossed had risen to 26, with the new Prosecco Marathon they are destined to increase even further. In addition to the beauty of the Unesco World Heritage hillsides, the defining characteristic of the race will always be this passage through the vineyards and into the wine cellars, which will also offer ‘on the fly’ tastings of food and wine excellence (in addition to Prosecco, salami, sopressa and more). The organisation will also be in charge of the refreshments, which, in addition to the classic, technical ones, will include special refreshments with local food and wine products. Unique in its kind, it will make it possible to run right among the barrels, barrels and tables of the farms. There will also be an evocative passage through the Benedictine Abbey of Santa Bona, touched upon for the first time in last year’s edition of the Prosecco Run. Precisely to allow participants to enjoy everything, the maximum time to complete the 42.195 km is set at 8 hours. There will be no stopwatch to keep an eye on this time, there will only be to open your eyes (and mouth) and heart, to taste this territory at 360°.
“Over the years, the Prosecco Run has become more and more a recreational and tourist event. Of course, there has never been a lack of competitive aspects, with athletes in the race who have also worn the blue jersey and have been protagonists of road races,’ says the president of Tri Veneto Run and volunteer of the Lepri Strache group, Francesco Sartori. With the Prosecco Marathon we want to give participants an even greater opportunity to experience our beautiful hills. It is a route that will have plenty of dirt roads and among the vineyards, with ups and downs and views that have earned recognition as a Unesco heritage site. The number of wineries and farms crossed will increase, and over the years they have become more and more involved in this event that combines sport, tourism and food and wine. Extending the distance, offering the possibility of testing oneself on a 42.195 km route, will complete the offer of enjoying our territory, even longer”.
The local administration is also ready to welcome the new event.
“I believe that for our territory adding the Prosecco Run to the Prosecco Marathon is the top – comments the mayor of Vidor, Mario Bailo – for years we have been hosting the half marathon, which brings many runners and walkers to our territory, also from outside the region. The combination with the marathon distance will increase the potential of this event. As an administration, we will give our full support to the organisers.
“We are happy, as municipal administration, to be involved in this event that will bring prestige to our territory,’ adds the mayor of Farra di Soligo, Mattia Perencin. ‘We welcome events such as the Prosecco Marathon that bring tourism and make our wonderful hills known even outside the regional borders. It will be a further step, an important calling card for our territory. We enthusiastically endorse the Prosecco Marathon, giving full support and backing to the organisers’.

“As an administration, we are very much in favour of initiatives that arise or are implemented with a view to promoting our territory, which is rich in so many aspects that are often not adequately valorised,’ says the mayor of Moriago della Battaglia, Giuseppe Tonello. ‘In the food and wine sector, just think of the Quartier del Piave potato, rather than other specialities. I applaud the organisers and the group of volunteers who, passionate about running, dedicate work, sacrifice, and time to realise such important events’.
“The area of the Unesco hills must equip itself with sporting and recreational events of importance, and the Prosecco Marathon is one of these,” says the mayor of Valdobbiadene, Luciano Fregonese. “I am talking about sporting events that make participants experience not only a competitive context but also the beauty of our territory. And the Prosecco Run, until last year, and from this one the Prosecco Marathon, have within them these characteristics of tourism promotion. It is an event that makes it possible to run, walk, eat well and fully experience our wonderful territory and that makes participants want to return in subsequent years. We are ready to welcome this event to our municipality.
All that remains, therefore, is to register for the Prosecco Marathon, for a 42.195 km long cheers.
