As part of the “Sernaglia is Culture” festival, Friday, Oct. 21 at 8:45 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall will feature the play “D’Italia si muore” by Centro Teatrale Da Ponte.
It is the story of a young man who, on the eve of the Battle of Vittorio Veneto, realizes he is fighting for a homeland he has never known, never visited and knows nothing about. A young soldier who, in a surreal dialogue with a crucifix at the top of a mountain peak, decides to invent the country to die for, to draw it in his head and tell it with the fantasy of despair.
It is a theatrical monologue written, in text and music, and directed by Edoardo Fainello, founder of the Lorenzo Da Ponte Theater Academy of Vittorio Veneto, and performed by actor Mirko Bottega. The soundtrack, written precisely by Fainello, has an evocative title: “Free” and is available on Spotify. For those who wish to approach the show before seeing it, listening to this music gives a sense of the stage atmosphere and a foretaste of the story.
“We are bringing to Sernaglia a show with a high artistic profile,” says Mayor Mirco Villanova, “sixty minutes of reflection on an unfortunately always topical issue such as war, between words, gestures and music. We are pleased to host the Da Ponte Theater Center, which with the Academy are a point of reference for those who wish to take the path of theater or film and which has already launched young actors on national stages.”
