SELVA DI CADORE is a beautiful summer and winter resort in the heart of the Venetian Dolomites in the Province of Belluno. Formed of small Ladin villages, situated at an altitude of about 1,300 meters above sea level, Selva di Cadore stretches into the sunny and shining Val Fiorentina.
This valley is set in a spectacular backdrop of the most gigantic and daring Dolomite mountains: the majestic Mount Pelmo, Civetta and, in the background, on one side the Marmolada with its perennial glacier, on the other the wild amphitheater of the Cernera group. Tradition, sports and culture are the strong points of this valley, an ideal destination for those seeking peace and tranquility in contact with nature.
Numerous are the area’s attractions: In summer, guests can enjoy walks , hikes, cultural and archaeological itineraries (Famous are the nearby First World War emplacements in the Lagazuoi/Cinque Torri area, the Alta Via nr. 1 route, the itineraries to visit the Mesolithic site of Mondeval de Sora and the Neolithic site of Mandriz, which have brought to light finds of recognized international importance.
Also varied and captivating are the mountain-bike routes, via ferrata and ascents. Finally, one can practice sport fishing in our limpid streams and numerous other sports in the new Multipurpose Sports Center in the hamlet of S. Fosca (Soccer field, basketball, volleyball, tennis, large play area for children big and small).
Selva di Cadore is also included in the Ski Civetta ski carousel, the largest in the Veneto region with its 80 km of slopes, and can count on a cross-country center with 4 rings of different difficulties.
In every corner of the valley you can find small restaurants, alpine huts and mountain huts where you can taste the typical local dishes of our Ladin tradition: recipes with the scents of the past, with artisanal processing, based on speck, game, mushrooms and the dairy products of our alpine pastures.
Culture is an integral part of the place. The Val Fiorentina Civic Museum “V. Cazzetta” collects archaeological, geo-paleontological and historical artifacts found in the Valley and neighboring areas, among which stand out for their international importance the burial with the “Mondeval Man Skeleton” dating back to the 6th millennium B.C. and the cast of the Monte Pelmetto boulder with imprinted footprints of three different species of dinosaurs (the first and oldest in Italy).
