Prosecco Cycling: Appointment September 26, 2021
This year black jersey for the worst team on three timed climbs
The original format of the event on September 26th is enriched by a ranking that will crown the slowest team in climbing the climbs of Ca ‘del Poggio, via dei Colli and Collalto. Three other rankings for individuals and teams. You will cycle for 104.8 kilometers in the heart of the DOCG. Registration open from April 5th.

In the beginning it was Luigi Malabrocca, the man who elevated the Black Jersey to an art. It was the 40s of the last century and Malabrocca, born in 1920, cyclist in the glorious season of Coppi and Bartali, invented a thousand tricks to conquer the uniform that in the Giro d’Italia, in those heroic years, represented the symbol of last rider in the general classification.

He hid in barns, at bars or under bridges, pretending to drill. And when he reached the finish line, very far from the leaders, he often no longer found anyone waiting for him. On the contrary: he could not even find the finish line, because the finish banner had already been removed.

It was for this reason, the delay of hours of the last arrived from the stage winner, that after a few years, at the Giro d’Italia, the Maglia Nera was abolished (the last, in 1951, was won by Giovanni “Nane” Pinarello , later famous bike manufacturer).

At Prosecco Cycling, which will return to the scene on 26 September 2021, after not stopping even last year, the emuli of Malabrocca will receive particular attention because the event that will develop for 104.8 kilometers in the heart of the hills of Prosecco Docg, with start and finish in Valdobbiadene, has thought of a special ranking that will reward the slowest riders: not individuals, but teams. Not along the entire route, but only on the three now classic climbs that characterize the route between the vineyards: Ca ‘del Poggio, via dei Colli and Collalto.

The team that will win this special ranking, called 4.10, resulting the worst in the sum of the averages achieved by its 10 slowest cyclists on the three climbs, will be rewarded with the inevitable supply of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg and with a giant sopressa, the typical salami symbol of Treviso hospitality, while each of its members will receive the exclusive Maglia Nera made by Giessegi, the right recognition for the ten champions of slowness.

The timing of the three climbs will also determine the individual classification, which will consider the sum of the times taken to climb Ca ‘del Poggio, via dei Colli and Collalto. 12 categories that, between one toast and another, will be awarded in Piazza Marconi.

The other two team rankings have also been confirmed, which now represent a “must” for Prosecco Cycling. One will reward the teams capable of placing the highest number of cyclists (minimum ten) across the finish line within 30 “. A hymn to team unity.

The other, called Fun Team, will reward the group (made up of men and women alike, as long as they are members of the same team) that will set the best time on the entire race course. With one particularity, however: the group must be made up of at least five participants, who will have to cross the finish line within 30 ‘and the time will be taken on the fifth competitor.

Between climbs and team challenges, the time trial will not be the primary objective of the Prosecco Cycling participants, but only an opportunity for more fun, in the sign of an original and quality competitive spirit that bans any form of exasperation.

The success of Prosecco Cycling, with its original format that rewards regularity and team spirit, is summarized by the numbers: over 45 thousand enthusiasts have cycled in the heart of the Prosecco hills, which since 2019 also boast the prestigious Unesco recognition of World Heritage Site, in the 17 editions of the event.

Registrations for the 2021 edition will open on Monday 5 April and provide for reduced rates for team memberships.
