Conegliano Run in Rosa: Silvia Furlan, a 30-year struggle with multiple sclerosis, will also be there

Conegliano Run in Rosa: Silvia Furlan, a 30-year struggle with multiple sclerosis, will also be there.
The Friulian athlete, suffering from multiple sclerosis, will be at the start of the first edition of the race to be held in the city of Cima on Sunday 5 March. Start and finish in via XX Settembre. The proceeds will be donated to charity for Sogni Onlus and Nostra Famiglia

Conegliano (Treviso), 24 February 2023 – Silvia falls, “but then I get back up”. With her unsteady step, she has faced a thousand difficulties, without ever giving up. “I keep the disease under control: sometimes it trips me up, but much more often I win,’ she assures.

The Conegliano Run in Rosa, due to make its debut on Sunday 5 March, will have a special guest: Silvia Furlani from Friuli, 62, who has been suffering from multiple sclerosis for over 30 years. As soon as she heard about this new race, Silvia asked the organisers if she could participate. And so she will.

Silvia discovered she was ill with multiple sclerosis in 1986. Since then, she has never stopped: marathons, half marathons, trails. In Italy and beyond. Kilometre after kilometre, Silvia carries a message of positivity, determination, courage: ‘Without sport I don’t know how I would have done it, it has been my lifeline. I never stop, every Sunday a run”.

Once she even risked her life: ‘In 2006 I got lost in the Libyan desert. I wandered in the dunes for 13 hours, then they rescued me’. In 2017, she walked the 125 kilometres of the Santiago de Compostela route. With her limping gait, supported by two Nordic walking poles and the company of a few runner friends, Silvia has crossed important milestones. The next one will be in the Conegliano hills. Where, as happens everywhere, she will be welcomed with all honours.

The Conegliano Run in Rosa is an occasion for fun, sharing and solidarity, conceived and organised by the Running Team Conegliano, a company already active in directing various running events in the provinces of Treviso, Venice and Udine.

“It is a race dedicated to women, but participation will also be open to men,” comments Maurizio Simonetti, president of Running Team Conegliano. “The event supports the Nastro Rosa world campaign for the prevention of breast cancer, and the proceeds, after deducting organisational costs, will be donated to Sogni Onlus and Nostra Famiglia di Conegliano. A pink race was still missing in the city, and this is another reason why we are experiencing great interest: participation is open to all, and it will be possible to register just a few minutes before the start in Piazza Cima, under the City Hall loggia”.

Sponsored by the Municipality of Conegliano and under the aegis of AICS, Conegliano Run in Rosa will offer two routes, of 5 and 9 kilometres. The start and finish will be in the very central Via XX Settembre, and the routes will take place in the hills around the city. Participation will also be open to Nordic walking and fitwalking enthusiasts.

Registration is possible through the endu.net platform (www.endu.net/it/events/conegliano-run-in-rosa/entry), or by making a bank transfer to iban IT71R0890461621016000000841 and sending the registration notice to mauri.simonetti@libero.it.

Five registration points will also be open: Carine in Conegliano (Monday-Friday, shop hours), the Millefiori flower shop in Mareno di Piave (Monday-Saturday, shop hours), Sportway in Conegliano (Monday-Saturday, shop hours), the Bar Filanda in Santa Lucia di Piave (Saturday morning, 9-12.30) and the Running Team office in Via Maset in Conegliano (Saturday afternoon, 4-7pm). The registration fee is 12 euro (8 for children under 8 years of age). Conegliano Run in Rosa runs towards the grand debut.
