Auronzo di Cadore (Belluno) – It will be an end of the year … in pink for Auronzo di Cadore. For the town of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo and its Dolomite territory, a Unesco World Heritage Site, it will not only be about the evocative and daily spectacle of the enrosadira (the phenomenon that “colors” the Dolomites at sunrise and sunset), but about the pink of the Giro d’Italia, Italy’s most important cycling event and one of the sporting events with the greatest tradition, prestige and following in the Bel Paese.

The Giro d’Italia will return to Auronzo on May 26 for the nineteenth stage, the Longarone-Tre Cime di Lavaredo. It will do so ten years after the last time (it was May 25, 2013), when Vincenzo Nibali in the pink jersey won under heavy snowfall at the finish line of the Auronzo refuge. And it is precisely the Auronzo refuge, located at an altitude of 2,333 meters at the foot of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, that will be the scene on Friday, December 30, of the presentation of the City of Stages logo. An exclusive location to set the tone for the initiatives that will cover the “queen stage” of Giro number 106, a 182-kilometer, 5,400-meter-high fraction that will take the pink race for the eighth time to the foot of one of the most iconic mountains in the Dolomites. The presentation at the refuge (the facility is open daily until January 8 and can be reached on foot or by snowmobile service) will take place at 12 noon.

In the evening, however, the appointment is in Auronzo, at the base of the Monte Agudo ski lifts in Taiarezze. At 6:30 p.m. there will be the traditional torchlight procession by the Auronzo-Misurina Ski School, a torchlight procession that will be tinged pink for the occasion, for a spectacle that will involve the instructors as well as tourists and residents. At the end of the torchlight procession, there will be a presentation of the events that the local Stage Committee is preparing for bicycle enthusiasts. These are, in particular, the appointments with “3Epic Tre Cime di Lavaredo”: on May 21 the Auronzo-Tre Cime di Lavaredo time trial with the goal of beating the Google Maps time (32 km in 3h32′), while on June 2, 3 and 4 the Tour of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, touching on Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Olympic city, the towns of Val Pusteria, and Comelico. An innovative event, the latter, with to be experienced in unbound mode, that is, free, with two GPX tracks designed for road and off-road bikes. At the end of the torchlight procession and presentation, Ribotta Art Bar will offer a convivial moment, offering panettone and mulled wine to all present. In addition, there will be music by Isabella and Gianluigi’s accordions and Fabio’s bass guitar.
