Reopening of Villa Marini Rubelli and the Ezzelini Tower

The new cultural and tourist information center

of the Asolo foothills and the symbol of Ezzelina history

Finally you can admire the results of the complex restoration begun in 2008 which allowed two symbolic places of San Zenone degli Ezzelini to be returned to the public: Villa Marini Rubelli and the Ezzelini Tower. Two very important historical assets brought back to their splendor and destined to give life to an articulated system of information on the excellence of the foothill area, between Brenta and Piave, and welcome for the public and tourists. At the same time, the fascinating exhibition “San Zenone Terra d’artisti” also arrives, the result of the long and scientific research of the Noè Bordignon Art Group, which has structured an unprecedented path with over 200 works by artists who since the end of the eighteenth century have get inspired by these places. From 18 September 2011.

The architectural and artistic beauties, the food and wine and artisan culture, the fascinating historical roots, the preservation of an extraordinary natural environment: these are just some of the elements that characterize the originality of San Zenone degli Ezzelini.

A set of peculiarities enhanced and made usable thanks to targeted interventions and a territorial promotion project. San Zenone thus becomes an explicit example of the concept of cultural landscape or a new way of understanding tourism as a system of exploration of the territory, of knowledge of the landscape as a whole, of history, of traditions and of the cultural dimension.

From 18 September 2011 there are many events that will mark the start of this new phase of the San Zenone area: the reopening of the complex of Villa Marini Rubelli – cultural and information center of the foothills – the restored Torre degli Ezzelini, the exhibition “San Zenone , Land of Artists ”together with the promotion of the environmental, historical, artistic and food and wine itineraries of the territory.

An imposing and complex restoration started in 2008 has made it possible to recover and return to the public two symbolic places of San Zenone: Villa Marini Rubelli and the Ezzelini Tower.

The complex of Villa Marini Rubelli, built between the 17th and 18th centuries, in addition to hosting the new cultural and tourist information center for visiting the Asolo foothills, will be transformed into a real showcase for the excellence and typicality of the area. . An information point to learn about everything that the territory offers and plan a 360 ° visit that accompanies the visitor to discover the artistic, architectural and environmental beauties, but also the food and wine and artisan specialties that characterize local production.

The Villa will also be an exhibition space for temporary exhibitions linked – by themes and affinities – to the artistic tradition of the area and a center of cultural aggregation.

It will also be possible to access the Ezzelini Tower: the only remaining evidence of the dominion of the Ezzelini family who, in the twelfth century, took possession of San Zenone. The spaces inside the Tower – from whose Belvedere you can admire a breathtaking view – have been made accessible thanks to a sort of staircase / path intended to host a permanent illustrative educational exhibition that illustrates the history of the Ezzelini and the medieval fiefs of the Asolo foothills.

San Zenone – a real door to the Pedemontata – is located in a border area between mountains, hills and plains and contains a varied combination of carefully protected natural environments including the Oasis of San Daniele, an articulated freshwater park, between Brenta and Piave. The best way to discover this area is to go hiking, biking or horseback riding. In fact, since the nineties, thanks to the work of the Nature Trails Association, four Nature Trails have been identified – and equipped with a high quality didactic-computer system.

These routes – of Castellaro, Colle San Lorenzo, Collalto and Valle del Ru – put “on the net” the landscape and plant aspects, the wildlife observation, the numerous rocks present, the sites and buildings of mainly historical-artistic interest, such as the Tower, the mills and the galleries, a legacy of the First World War. Furthermore, San Zenone gave its name to the Sentiero degli Ezzelini, which starting from Asolo reaches Fusina – Venice along the embankment of the Muson stream.

The hiker will only have to be accompanied by an exceptional guide: Verdelfo.

The friendly elf – represented in all the information materials – in addition to representing the spirit of the uniqueness of this place, has the task of educating young and old to knowledge and respect for the natural environment.

San Zenone is also included in the provincial itinerary La Strada dell’Architettura – remember the Palladian Villa Rovèro – and in the Association of Walled Cities of Veneto.

But the territory of the Pedemontana, inserted in the DOC area of Montello and the Asolo hills, is also known for its food and wine excellences such as its DOP cheeses (Asiago, Taleggio, Montasio, Grana Padano and Casatella Trevigiana), grappa, oil and the nose; all products can be tasted in the farmhouses in the area.

“San Zenone, Land of Artists”

a fascinating journey beyond

200 works from the eighteenth century to today

From 18 September 2011

on January 8, 2012

“San Zenone, Land of Artists”

From 18 September 2011 to 8 January 2012, Villa Marini Rubelli will host, promoted by the Municipality of San Zenone, the exhibition “San Zenone, Land of Artists”, the result of an exhibition project curated by the Noè Bordignon Art Group (present in the area from over thirty years) which, after a long scientific research, has structured an unprecedented path in chronological order, with over 200 works by artists who, starting from the end of the eighteenth century until today, have been inspired by the human environment and the landscape of San Zenone from whose fusion comes a natural creativity that is difficult to find in other places.

An absolutely original operation in an attempt to reconstruct the artistic history of a country, also for the involvement of many people, art historians, artists, enthusiasts or simple fellow citizens who have taken steps to recover news, data, sources or to find works dispersed.

Over two hundred years of high quality artistic history told through the works, many unpublished, by artists such as Noè Bordignon, who in addition to having created the splendid fresco of the “Last Judgment” at the Archpriest Church, is represented on display with many genre scenes where he portrays the countryside, greenery and misery, immortalizing the dignity of those who suffer and the solidarity of these peasant lands; Teodoro Wolf Ferrari who after coming into contact with the European avant-gardes of the time, chooses to spend the last few years in San Zenone, creating numerous Impressionist landscapes of the Treviso town; or the long-lived and famous sculptor Francesco Rebesco whose marbles and sketches of works that adorn public and private squares and buildings in the area can be admired. But along the exhibition path it will be possible to rediscover the creations of Antonio Conte (1783-1867), Andrea Filippo Favero (1837-1914), Serafino Ramazzotti (1846-1920), Fausto Bellino Tasca (1885- 1937), Lazzaro (Rino) Bordignon (1889-1906), Valerio Giacobbo (1894-1979), Luigi Stefani (1899-1987), Piergiorgio Rebesco (1936), Enzo Alberton (1937).

It will actually be a unique opportunity to see so many works by protagonists of the Venetian nineteenth century grouped together and to see the transposition into the work of art of that extraordinary landscape in which we can still immerse ourselves today.

In particular, Bordignon – one of the greatest painters of his time, internationally recognized as the most important Venetian fresco of the second half of the nineteenth century, heir to the great tradition ranging from Titian to Tiepolo – will be exhibited 16 oils of the highest level: all genre paintings, on which we wanted to focus attention, with some absolute masterpieces such as The Emigrants, The game of cards, Girl with a white veil, Canova’s compatriots, Catechism lesson, Maternal love, the Arcolaio, Autumn, Along the stream.

Wolf Ferrari who, born in Venice in 1876, spent the summer in San Zenone as a child together with his father, a friend of Bordignon, his mother and his brother, a musician, will be on display some of the most significant works, especially inspired by the Venetian town, such as San Zenone with the Tower of Ezzelino or San Zenone towards the Pasubio.

Alongside the nucleus of the masters of the past, a path dedicated to the contemporary artists of the Noè Bordignon Art Group who today, as then, continue the local artistic tradition will be set up in the Barchessa della Villa and in the connecting courtyard.

The project – which therefore provides for the exhibition of about 230 works by 39 artists – will also be completed by the creation of a voluminous catalog; while during the exhibition a series of specific conferences will be held, one for each artist: starting from Friday 7 October at 20.30 for ten consecutive Fridays their historical story will be deepened and the evenings will end with a visit to the dedicated room to the author. On Sunday 25 September, the Pro Loco will organize a whole day with a walk and related refreshments in the hills of San Zenone through the places where the San Zenone artists lived and created their works: places specially marked by a specific didactic apparatus.

Therefore, throughout the exhibition period, interesting collateral initiatives will be organized by the Archè group, while fascinating historical re-enactments will be proposed by the Sodalitas Ecelinorum Academy.
